Weekend at Cashiers

Daniel and I left Nathan with the Berzacks for the weekend and stayed at Gina and Mike's cabin in Cashiers, NC. We did a little hiking and just relaxed and enjoyed the view from their cabin. It was nice to get away and enjoy two very nice fall days in the mountains of NC.

Deck

We added a wooden deck around our patio so that we have more room to hang out and entertain.

Update to the Update

We just finished a fun Halloween and are looking forward to Thanksgiving. Daniel is headed to Afghanistan now in December. Sorry about the delay on all of the updates. I am in a kayak race Saturday morning and I can't wait to be back on the water. I hope everyone is doing well.

Happy Halloween

Jacksonville Science Museum and Waterfront

Jacksonville, FL

We were in Jacksonville for Daniel to get his aviation survival water qualifications redone. While we were in Jacksonville I took Nathan to the zoo one day. He loved the train that went around the park and the aviaries (forgot the camera)! The next day all of us went to the art museum which had a really nice kid section and sculpture gardens. Daniel finished his training and took us by to see what he had been doing. It was really neat to see all of the dunkers, hypoxia stuff, etc. On Wednesday we went to the science museum and water front area before heading home.

Savannah

We visited Savannah with Michelle and Gota.

Update

I just thought that I would post an update on what we have been doing lately. Daniel is back at the airstation now:-) which is nice because he has his weekends back. He is working at the MAG(Marine Air Group) right now and will be deploying in January for six or seven months. After that he will be sent to a squadron at the airstation. Which is actually not a bad deal because he will be here through all of the holidays, Nathan's first birthday, etc. We aren't sure which base he will be sent to yet but he hopes to go to one of the same places he went to last time (in Iraq) because they have the best chili. But regaurdless of where he is sent he won't be doing partols or any work outside the base. Nathan is starting his first reading group at the library on Monday. Nathan's lapsit library group meets once a week for 30 minutes. I think it will be fun for both of us. Nathan's first tooth has made its appearance and we expect many more to follow shortly! Nathan takes off crawling the second you set him down and one of his favorite games is to stand up with the help of an ottaman. I am constantly busy with Nathan and gardening when he takes his naps. I have my fall vegetables in the ground and am looking forward to some cooler weather. Nathan and I have been going on morning runs and I think he is beginning to assume that I am carting him around the neighborhood so that he can observe his "estate".

Daniel's Change of Command/Fairwell from Parris Island

The first picture is of Daniel and Mel outside Daniel's office before the Change of Command. The second picture is of Daniel receiving an award from his Battalion Commander at the Fairwell Dinner. The third picture is of Daniel passing the guidon (flag) to the new commander that relieved him. The last picture is of Nathan flirting with the bartender at the Fairwell Dinner!

New Blog

Welcome to the Berz Blog. I thought that I would start a blog so everyone can check in occasionally to see what Nathan has been up to lately. My goal is to update it once a week - hopefully that will happen. Please post any comments or suggestions that you have! I should finish the creating the blog tonight or tomorrow and will have some new pictures of Nathan.
